Mahonia gracilipes

An unusual mahonia that quickly became one of my favorite acquisitions, M. gracilipes boasts wide leathery green leaves the shape of stylized fish and an unusual fall bloom season with unusual flower color–a combination of burgundy and light mustard. The flowers are small but held in numerous delicate sprays. Very cool! It does best in pleny of shade and moist, well-drained soil. Native to western China.
