Hedychium coccineum ‘Tara’

Native to lightly wooded areas of Asia, this is a plant with a very tropical feel that has been 100% reliable in my Zone 7 garden. I have it in full sun and it has flourished, sending up multiple large canes late in June over a 2-foot area. Though it emerges late, it always flowers, though sometimes not until late September. The blooms are an exquisite coral with a lovely sweet fragrance. Because it emerges so late, I have to be very watchful not to step on the corms as they come out of the ground.
