Gentian makinoi ‘Royal Blue’

Native to the mountains of Japan, This gentian bears the signature true blue blooms of the genus–a blue I dare any other plant to compete with! Growing gentians is not nearly the challenge its made out to be as long as you choose suitable varieties. This one has been exceptionally easy, having been moved several times and still thriving. It is a tall lanky plant that needs a partner or two to lean against. The flowers are unusual in that they never fully open–looking like dark blue Christmas lightbulbs. Grow it in full sun to part shade with no other special treatment.
